The Law of Consent and Capacity in Psychiatry

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this lecture, the participants should be able to:

1. Understand when a mental health patient has legally valid capacity;
2. Learn how to obtain informed consent from a mental health patient;
3. Understand the relationship between consent and capacity under the law.

 

This event is an accredited group learning activity (section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, approved by the Canadian Psychiatric Association (CPA).
