Mentorship Opportunities
The Ontario District Branch of the American Psychiatric Association is pleased to offer our Medical Student and Resident members an opportunity to meet informally in groups of 3-5, with an established Psychiatrist and discuss career and practice-related interests over a casual meal. If you would like to sign up, please indicate the Mentor of your choice, and leave your name, affiliation, and contact information with Colleen at odbapa@rogers.com . Once this group is filled, the Mentor will get back to you with next steps.

Dr. Kathy Margittai – Psychosomatics and Women’s Mental Health, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, University of Toronto
Psychiatric Consultant, Ambulatory Mental Health, North York General Hospital
Psychiatric Consultant, North York Family Health Team
Presently 80% in private practice, 20% at North York General Hospital doing outpatient assessments, and Mindfulness groups (MBSR). Current research interests include how to increase Family Doctors’ capacity to deal with mental illness in their practices (shared care); and the impact of Mindfulness training on individuals with different health challenges. (Past research includes papers on Medical Student Abuse, and the neurophysiology of ADHD.)
Formerly at Womens’ College Hospital: Co-ordinator of the Consultation-Liaison Service; Co-ordinator of Undergraduate Education in Psychiatry at WCH (Peters Academy).
Always busy with a spouse, two children, and maintaining that optimal work – family life balance, she loves science fiction, Indian food (eating, not cooking), and Photography.
Dr. Lily Van – Psychiatrist, Forensic Psychiatry Division, the Centre for Mental Health and Addiction (CAMH)
Dr. Van completed her undergraduate medical education at the University of Toronto where she also finished residency in psychiatry, as well as subspecialty training in forensics. She is currently working full-time at CAMH doing inpatient and outpatient work in forensic psychiatry, as well as fitness assessments at court. Her current research interests include the genetics of schizophrenia, in particular the 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, as well as intimate partner violence. In her free time, she enjoys scrapbooking and traveling
